Chikankari<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lucknow is famous for Chikankari Work Embroidery. It is believed that this Indian Embroidery came from the Mughal Dynasty. Generally, it is made with the white thread on plain white cotton or colored fabric pattern; like \u2018muslin or mulmul\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gota<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Gota or Gota Patti Embroidery works are associated with Rajasthan; specifically in Jaipur. It is known only for female\u2019s formal apparel and is made with gold thread on zari fabric ribbon. It makes use of birds, animals or nature images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kamal Kadai<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It originated in Andhra Pradesh and is also known as \u2018Lotus Embroidery\u2019. The reason behind its name is its style of embroidery; in the form of lotus petals. This Indian Embroidery is made by woven stitch with square shaped pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kashmiri Stitches<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It is one of the famous stitches in Indian Embroidery. As its name says, it belongs to Kashmir but is associated with the Mughal Period. It is also known as Kashida Embroidery. You can see these stitches on their pashmina shawls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phulkari<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Phulkari Embroidery comes from the colourful state of Punjab. The \u2018Phulkari Dupatta\u2019 is quite famous there. It is made by Holbein Stitch. As its name says, it means the flower work. It uses a thread strand at one time, from the rear side of the fabric, leaving a longer stitch at the bottom to form the basic pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mirror Work<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This embroidery comes equally from Gujarat, Haryana and Rajasthan. Originated in the 13th century, it is made by small mirrors with various shapes. This embroidery is famous for cushion and pillow covers, Kurti, tops, sarees and handmade decorative things. You can also see mirror work in Gujarat’s Lehenga Choli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toda Embroidery<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This Indian Embroidery came from Todu Tribes in Tamil Nadu. It is also famous for the name of \u2018pukhoor\u2019, related to the Nilgiri region. This embroidery is made on white cotton fabric with black and red thread; in a square pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zardozi Embroidery<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It is believed that in the 16th Century, the Mughal brought this embroidery in India. It is made by plastic threads, coated with gold or silver material colour. Earlier, it used to be made with thread made of real gold and silver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
